The Town of Charleston introduced ideas on Wednesday to renovate the lengthy-vacant Henry P. Archer Faculty on Nassau Street in downtown Charleston. A partnership involving The Humanities Basis and James Doran Business will make the $42 million renovation achievable.

The faculty was originally built in the 1930s through segregation and shut down in 2010 as the building was determined to be unfit to stand up to an earthquake of a 5. magnitude or better in 2010. It has sat vacant since then.
The Humanities Foundation, a nonprofit improvement corporation, procured the developing from the Charleston University District in 2020 with intentions of redeveloping it into economical housing.
Now, retrofitting and design on the job is underway and is anticipated to be comprehensive by early 2024. The project will be preserved with new design extra to accommodate all 89 units.
