Property is in Transition-Wait before going – Review of The Cove Eleuthera, Gregory Town

You can do your own research but long story short is that the property changed hands a few years ago and had been shut down during the pandemic. It reopened early this year and renovations are ongoing.
The great things here are the people and the property. Everyone who worked here could not have been friendlier and went out of their way to take care of us. The property itself is gorgeous as far as the setting and being on the water. Like much of the island it is quiet and private There were not many people here during our stay which made it nice as well. We had a great time kayaking and snorkeling around the coves and beyond. The restaurant was average but I will say that the breakfast was outstanding. It was our understanding that the main chef was not there at the time of our stay for some reason.
That being said there is quite a bit of work to be done before I would recommend investing the time and money to stay here. The grounds were somewhat neglected with many bare spots in the grass and there were uneven, cracked stepping stones that go throughout the property. The wooden decks outside of the villas and the pool/restaurant area were greyed out and some had splintered. Several of the night lights leading out of our suite did not work and were hanging sideways. The website touts…

The website touts a boat available on property that can be booked for excursions. This was not the case as the boat dock was under construction with only the piers in place. The mini fridge in the room was too large for the cabinet and the cabinet would not shut all of the way. I’m not sure if they intend on getting new furnishings or a smaller fridge. They had applied a heavy coat of paint in our room and the quality of the paint job left a lot to be desired as they had gotten paint on the nightstand the light fixtures next to the bed.
We stayed in one of the Ocean Front Mater Cove Suites. You have your own deck and are only steps away from the water. The room was large and the bathroom was great, with great water pressure. The mattress was quite comfortable. These rooms are two to a building. They are wooden structures and you can hear your neighbors walking and talking. Back in the bathroom you can hear your neighbors conversation quite clearly. They should consider some form of soundproofing. We were here for 5 nights and our AC went out the last night. There was a big effort to get things ready for a large group coming in and when they cut the grass they left debris on our stairs for over a day.
As on most of the island, be prepared to rent a car or take a cab to get to many of the other beaches and sites. The website touts that you can ride one of their bicycles to Gregory Town, Gaulding’s Cay or Queen’s bath but no one in their right mind would get out on the main highway on the bikes. The road is narrow with no shoulder and no striping and the locals drive quite fast. One couple tried it and went about 3 miles before they left their bikes at a local restaurant and took a cab back. If you do rent a car, lower your expectations regarding age and mileage of the car. Be prepared to stick to the main highway and drive on the left side of the road. There are many sites worth goin to (Surfer’s Beach and Queen’s Bath for sure).
This is a nice piece of property and I wanted to give 3 Stars but when you pay close to $1,900 per night (including breakfast, taxes and resort fees) you expect more attention to details. We will keep up with the progress here and consider going back when everything is complete. Thanks again to the staff!!More
