The New Home Trends Institute Releases New Insights Report

The New Home Trends Institute, from John Burns Real Estate Consulting in partnership with Pro Builder, just released its July 2022 Survey Insights Report. The report outlines changing homebuyer expectations, the reallocation of indoor and outdoor spaces, and how floorplan design continues to react to new consumer demands.

The report offers an executive summary, broken out into topics on home features, the outdoors, and styles. According to the New Home Trends Institute, the pandemic has taken quite a toll on what homebuyers want and expect from their future homes, as “52% of architectural designers are designing outdoor spaces differently, due to the pandemic.”

Covered outdoor rooms, patios, and front porches are the most often included outdoor spaces.

Weighted rank of frequency outdoor space was included in 2021 designs:

• Covered outdoor room/open-air room
• Patio
• Front porch or wraparound porch
• Balcony
• Deck (excluding rooftop)
• Open yard
• Courtyard
• Roof deck
